Inter-species communication. Is it possible?
I’m pretty sure you’ve felt that connection, on some level, with your pet(s).
Like Anna Breytenbach, I believe it’s our most natural state of being but like everything else we’ve forgotten in our progressive alienation from the natural world, it’s become a mysterious and profound emptiness that we can’t seem to fill.
I, half-jokingly, call myself an insect whisperer but I do believe I’m, at times, able to connect on a deeper level with other beings, plants, insects, animals.
I had a profound experience at ‘Marineland’, many years ago, and vowed never to go back there again.
I paid, and joined in a long line-up, for the opportunity to touch an Orca. He was a large beautiful male and I was very excited for the chance to be able to caress him. Once I did finally touch him, however, a heavy, dark, sorrow fell over me. My heart shattered as I sensed the grieving for who this magnificent creature once was and the sheer brokenness of his being now. My friend, with me, was confused by my sobs of distress which he’d expected to be tears of elation.
Was there an actual exchange between the Orca and myself? I believe there was. Though I have no way of proving it was nothing more than my own projection, I’ve learned to trust my knowingness.
Do you believe?
