Let it Be
I prefer to share happy, positive and/or proactive stuff on my blog and social media. I do have many concerns about animal rights, equality for people, the environment, etc… But I believe we’re inundated enough with anxiety-inducing messages in our daily lives and need to get a dose of the “good stuff” more often.
However, in the name of authenticity and transparency, I have to admit I’m feeling pretty gloomy today. Being an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), I tend to have my ups and downs. Bipolar disorder does as well run in my family. And, I always say, “Anyone who isn’t at least a little crazy in this world as it is, has got to be a little crazy.” š
Last night I had an anxiety attack at bedtime. It’s been a long while since I’ve had one and I’m very fortunate to have a partner who understands how to roll with it and hold me in a safe space as I do my best to let it play out. My anxiety attacks often manifest through convulsive-like movements in my body. I won’t go into full detail of what happens but to give you an idea, it’s a little bit like electricity shooting through my limbs and up my spine. You can imagine how that looks, I’m sure. So yes, I really do appreciateĀ having such a supportive partner. (I’ve read about similar experiences where it’s been classified as aĀ Kundalini Awakening. The jury’s still out on this for me.) Usually what precedes this attack is an overwhelming, heart-wrenching sorrow and fear for the world.
This morning I feel emotionally and physically drained and lethargic. When I get in this state, I tend to notice the negativity everywhere, in world events, the moods of people I know, on internet media. I never know if my mood is affecting what catches my attentionĀ or if the state of world collective is affecting my mood, perhaps they’re not mutually exclusive, or, if you follow quantum physics, perhaps I’m creating my own reality. š
The state of the world and mankind is a worry for most of us these days and may be either front and center in your mind or loitering inconspicuously underneath your thoughts and actions. If you care at all about this life, you can’t remain unaffected or unscathed.
Though I can usually manage to hold onto a shred of hope for the future of humanity, there are days when I have to say, “Uncle!” and give in to wallowing around the muck of heartbreak for a while. It’s important to acknowledge our collective pain and mourn our losses from time to time.
Allowing a day or two for wound-licking, tears and self/world-pity can be a truly healing foray. The trick is to avoid letting it last long enough to swallow you into the abyss. Although, there are times when this too is a necessary pilgrimage for many of us on the “Hero’s Journey”.
Self-care and pampering are good practices to lean on at this time.
Some suggestions for those of you who may go through your own blue days:
- Most definitely, stepping off the “I should be…” bus is a MUST.
- Let your day and mood unfold as they wish.
- Take a “mental health day” off work, if you can.
- Take a warm bath with epsomĀ salts and your favorite essential oils. ( I love FrankincenseĀ and Rose for emotional healing on a deep level.)
- Stay in your pajamas all day. š
- Journal, do art, write a blog post, do something creative.
- Drink lots of water and soothing herbal teas.
- Hug your pet(s). Unless it’s a fish or something un-huggable like that. š
- Keep your sense of humor! You need it right now.
- Cry if you need to. Did you know that crying releasesĀ endorphins (your natural feel-good hormones)?
- Get out for a walk, in nature if possible, but not if you’re still in your pajamas.

We are human. We are living in frightening times. There’s a lot on our shoulders. So cut yourself some slack!Ā Especially if you’re on the path of the “Warriors of the Rainbow”.
It’s good, appropriate and sometimes necessary to just be with it and just feel how you feel.
Big Blessings,
Diana

Big hugs! I guess I’m the supportive partner, as my husband and my son suffer from severe panic attacks. I’ve found getting them to unplug from everything helps them surface into calmer waters. I usually will take my son out on one of our adventures and just let him roam and reconnect with himself.
